How much do you know about the three Fs? Did you take classes in school that taught you how to take care of your body mentally and physically? Did they teach you skills surrounding finance, food, and fitness to carry on throughout your life? Did they show you how to manage your money, what food is good for you, and how to stay active to maintain a healthy body? My guess is no, that you didn’t receive much education surrounding these topics; much like the rest of us. Just like you, I’ve been here. Unaware of how unhealthy I truly was and blaming my lack of energy and health problems on aging. Thankfully, I soon discovered I was unhealthy because my lack of education which is way I want to help spread wisdom on the three topics they forgot to teach us in school.
And I know what you’re thinking: “Why is a wealth management company writing about food and fitness?” Well, we think it goes hand in hand with finance. What most of us don’t realize is that our finances and ultimately everything surrounding our lives is controlled by our behavior. If we can manage our behavior, we can reach our goals easier and faster. Food and fitness play a huge roll in the health of you and your family. Inside your body there’s millions of chemical reactions and everything we put into our body has an effect on us. It effects our energy levels, our moods, and our behavior. It effects the decisions we make, the way we react to situations, and even our anxiety levels and that’s why we wanted to take some time to explore these factors.
We’re all foodies at True Measure. We love cooking home grown meals, we love sharing recipes, and we cherish the support we provide to each other. So where do you begin with food? I don’t want to start a food argument about what’s good for you and what’s not good for you. I do know that the food I put into my body makes me feel amazing. I’m not foggy, I’m not out of energy all the time, and I’m active everyday. I’m 52 years old and I’m currently in an extreme body shaping class six days a week. I’m not telling you this to brag. With the right diet anyone can feel as good as I do. So a good rule of thumb for me and my support system: if it grows, if it’s natural, and if it has no added sugar or ingredients you can’t pronounce, then you can eat as much of it as you want. My suggestion to anyone wanting to get healthy is to start slow by first cutting out sugar including soda, candy, fast food, etc. Below is a list of resources to get you started. This one can seem overwhelming. We all had PE class in school but no one taught you how to go to the gym, utilize your time, and engage in effective workouts. To me, this is the second layer. The first thing you should master is food and then move into fitness. Exercising regularly can improve memory, thinking skills, boost your mood, relieve stress, help you sleep better, build self-confidence, and is a great stress reliever. If a gym is overwhelming to you, don’t worry, there’s plenty of resources online now that you can utilize in the comfort of your own home. YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, or google “home workouts.” I promise that there’s so many out there, you’ll never run out of workouts to do at home. If a gym or working out alone doesn’t sound like you then try a hobby like biking, canoeing, or hiking. Food and fitness is always easier with a buddy. Build a support system to help keep you on track and motivated.

Finance is our expertise. We manage peoples’ wealth and provide guidance surrounding one’s financial picture. When you get your mind and body aligned with who you want to be, suddenly things start falling in place. My recommendation for finance is to read quality financial literacy. And when I say financial literacy, I don’t mean market news. Market news creates fear and panic within investors and is often the cause of unfortunate events.
